Ways to Improve Your Reading Speed
There are many ways that you can improve your reading speed. You should be able to improve your reading speed in
one of many ways. However, doing this is going to require work on your part, so you should be willing to work on it
and put the time and effort into the process of working to improve your reading speed.
Assess your Strengths
The first step to do in order to improve your reading speed is to make sure that you know what you are doing well
and what you need to work on. In order to access your strengths, which will give you a better chance of being able
to improve your reading speed, you need to take a speed reading test to see what you are doing well. This test will
basically have you read a passage, and will clock the amount of time that you are reading it. Then, you will be
asked to answer questions about the passage, without looking at it. This part of the test will measure how well you
comprehend what you have read, because this is an important part in how you improve your reading speed.
Once you have figured out what your strengths are you can begin to work to improve your reading speed. The first
thing that you should work on is being able to see words as whole units, and not individual letters. If you can
look at a word and know what it means without having to read and sound through each letter, you are going to be
doing alright when it comes to speed reading. This is the basis of speed reading, being able to look at a group of
words and simply know what they mean, without actually having to read the letters. One way to improve your reading
speed is to look at groups of letters and be able to know what they mean.
Another important way to improve your reading speed is to improve how you read so that you don’t’ have to go back
and re read for details that you have missed. If you can read a passage quickly and not have to go back to look for
answers to questions, you are probably doing alright at being able to improve your reading speed. One of the big
problems when it comes to being able to improve your reading speed is being a fast reader but then having to go
back and reread something because you don’t remember the details. Both of these factors of speed reading are
important for you to work on if you want to improve your reading speed.
